Car Wash Attendant Description

A car wash attendant is responsible for washing cars at car wash facilities. These professionals often use various cleaning agents and equipment to perform their responsibilities. They may also oversee operations at automated or self-service car wash facilities. Besides cleaning the interior and exterior of vehicles, car wash attendants also perform customer service duties. A car detailer performs similar responsibilities, though they typically provide more comprehensive or restorative cleaning. For example, they may wax the car or apply paint protection film.


Some of the typical job duties of a car wash attendant include:

• Greeting customers and explaining services provided by the facility
• Managing payments and transactions
• Monitoring functionality of car wash machinery and equipment
• Performing maintenance on car washing equipment as needed
• Washing the interior and exteriors of cars by hand, using proper equipment and cleaning agents
• Pre-washing and rinsing soiled vehicles
• Performing maintenance on car washing equipment as needed
• Cleaning the car wash facility, including taking out trash or removing debris
• Assisting customers as needed
• Moving or directing vehicles into car wash areas
• Inspecting vehicles to assess their condition
• Ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures
