Job Description
The Position Genentech, Inc. seeks a Senior Financial Analyst at its South San Francisco, California location.
Duties: Within global pharmaceutical and medical diagnostics company, preparing preliminary financial updates and variance analysis to enable transparency into financial performance and drivers. Building and maintaining effective partnerships with the Commercial Finance teams through regular meetings and close collaboration. Ensuring proper account coding to enable activity-based cost tracking for all Commercial teams. Updating purchase order expense accrual schedules in a timely fashion to properly reflect services rendered based on review of Ad Agency/vendor reconciliations and feedback from vendors, and corroborated by the business partners. Collaborating on month-end close activities through expense recognition, journal entries, recodes and compliance to internal controls and processes. Managing and participating in various projects related to system implementation, efficiencies, audit support and other activities in alignment with group and departmental goals. Taking ownership of all relevant systems, tools, techniques, databases, and data sets.
Education/Experience Requirement: Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, and 3 years of post-baccalaureate progressive experience as a Finance Analyst, Accountant or a closely related role.
Specialized Experience: Employer requires 2 years of experience with the following:
- Accounting concepts and financial statement analysis including experience in supporting month-end close activities and preparing monthly financial management reports
- Biotech and Pharma Industry experience including knowledge of US Clinical Trails
- ERP systems (SAP and TM1), including use of financial reports (GAAP, IFRS, ASPE)
- Data Science programming languages: VBA
- Data Science programming languages SQL
- Data Science visualization tools: Excel, Tableau, Spotfire, SAP Business Objects
- Translating spend into P&L and balance sheet impact, modeling financial impact, leading financial reviews/storytelling
Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in South San Francisco, California is $137,472 to $179,400. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
