POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our team as a Speech Language Specialist, where you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of patients. You will evaluate patients' speech and language functions, selecting and applying appropriate treatments to enhance or restore their abilities. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you'll also contribute to community education and the training of future professionals. Occasional cross-site coverage responsibilities may be needed.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Graduate of an accredited program in Speech Language Pathology with at least a Master of Science degree.
• Current Connecticut license for Speech Language Pathology.
• Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.

COMPETENCIES:

• Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Basic proficiency in personal computer skills, including Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Reliable transportation for travel between multiple work sites, as this is essential for performing your duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Speech Language Specialist, your key responsibilities will include:

1. Conducting comprehensive evaluations of patients in line with departmental standards.
2. Adapting evaluations based on individual patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical history, while establishing personalized, measurable goals.
3. Implementing effective therapeutic techniques tailored to each patient.
4. Administering physical agents and manual techniques to meet treatment goals.
5. Utilizing effective methods to normalize speech and language activities.
6. Educating patients and families on home exercise programs to promote independence in functional activities.
7. Assessing patients' progress and making discharge recommendations when appropriate.
8. Documenting all relevant information according to insurance guidelines and departmental procedures.
9. Maintaining interdepartmental communication and liaising with referring physicians regarding patient care.
10. Accurately submitting charges on a daily basis.
11. Upholding the professional code of ethics set by ASHA and the facility.
12. Using safe body mechanics throughout all duties to prevent injuries.
13. Supervising at least one affiliated student each year.
14. Participating in continuing education to enhance treatment techniques.
15. Contributing to at least one departmental or community in-service event annually.
